Drag a file.
Pick a slice.
Done.
Dropwheel is a wheel that appears while you drag files on your Mac. Convert, compress and share images, video, audio, PDFs and documents without opening another app.
macOS 13 or later · Apple silicon and Intel · 14 days free, then a one-time purchase
Hold Shift while dragging a photo: every format it can become.
Faster than opening any app
No windows, no export dialogs. The result is saved right next to the original.
Start dragging
Pick up one file, several, or a whole folder in the Finder and keep the mouse button down.
Press a key
⇧ to convert, ⌘ for tools, ⌃ for actions. The wheel opens under your pointer.
Drop on a slice
Let go over “MP4”, “Compress” or “AirDrop”. Dropwheel does the rest in the background.
Prefer the keyboard? Select files in the Finder and press ⌃⌥Space.
One wheel, most of your files
The wheel only shows what makes sense for what you’re dragging.
🖼Images
Convert, compress, resize, rotate, crop square, strip metadata, remove the background (macOS 14+), merge into a PDF.
🎬Video
Convert, compress, trim, 720p, mute, rotate, speed up, grab a frame, extract the audio, merge clips.
🎵Audio
Convert, compress, trim, normalize loudness, make mono, reverse, merge tracks.
Compress, merge, split, rotate, extract or remove pages, turn into text, Word or images.
📝Documents
Move text between formats, or make a PDF or an e-book out of it.
📊Spreadsheets & slides
Excel, CSV and Numbers files, PowerPoint and Keynote decks, to PDF and back. Uses Numbers and Keynote, free from Apple.
🗜Archives
Zip anything, extract archives, switch between archive formats.
💬Subtitles
Switch between SubRip and WebVTT, or shift every line earlier or later.
⚡️Actions
Send with AirDrop, park files on the Shelf, copy or move them, copy their path, open a Terminal there.
Private by design
Every conversion happens on your Mac. Your files are never uploaded anywhere.
Works offline
On a plane or on a train, Dropwheel works exactly the same.
Stays out of the way
It lives in the menu bar and only shows up when you drag a file and press a key.

Questions
Why does macOS ask me to confirm Dropwheel the first time?
Dropwheel is sold directly, not through the App Store, so macOS asks you to approve it once in System Settings › Privacy & Security. It takes a few seconds: here’s how.
Do my files get uploaded?
No. Everything is converted on your Mac. The only time Dropwheel goes online is to activate and, about once a week, check your license key. See the privacy policy.
Which Macs does it run on?
Any Mac with macOS 13 Ventura or later, with Apple silicon or an Intel processor.
What happens when the trial ends?
The wheel still opens, but asks for a license key before converting. Your files and settings stay as they are.
Can I move my license to a new Mac?
Yes. In Dropwheel’s Settings › License, click “Deactivate on This Mac”, then enter your key on the new one. Each key works on one Mac at a time. Lost or broken Mac? Write to support@dropwheel.online and we’ll free your key.
Do I need to install anything else?
No. Audio and video support is built in. Pages, Numbers and Keynote, free from Apple, are only needed for their own files and for Office slides and spreadsheets.
I lost my license key.
It’s in the email you received after buying. If you can’t find it, write to support@dropwheel.online with the email you used to pay.
